The sun had set, we were both lounging around in our evening wear. I’m on the yoga mat, Luca is on the couch, and he’s humming some tune stuck in his head. Luca is harmonically challenged, so for the life of me, I’ve no idea what he’s getting at, and he’s asking for help. He doesn’t know the artist or song's name, but he hums and looks over at me with a lot of enthusiasm, but I stare blankly at him. He asked Siri too, but the AI had no clue.

.

This went on for a while. Luca only gave up when he passed out, and when he woke up, the song was still in his head, so the chase continued.

.

We left the loft for a few hours to run errands because we are headed for the mountains today. The windows were down, the sunroof open. It was a vibe just without music. And then he figured it out, and quietly too because Luca reached for the controls and connected his phone to the Bluetooth without uttering a word.

.

‘I can see the crystal raindrops fall, and the beauty of it all….’ I look over to him, and on cue, he says, “this is the song I’ve been humming all night!” Do you know this song?

.

Yes, Luca, I know Bill Withers and Grover Washington Jr.

.

Shockingly, Luca knew most of the lyrics. Had he revealed just a couple of words of the chorus the night before, I would have solved the riddle for him. He didn’t ask for some reason, but now I’m listening to him sing along, almost in a whisper, and it's pretty. Luca can’t hum a tune, but he can sing one when he wants to.

.

I joined Luca. We both sang along and had a Tuesday together. Just the two of us.
